This last week has been very special. It was my birthday on the 10th and husband ensured that this day became truly memorable. The morning started with my best friends calling me and wishing me almost like back to back, followed by friends and family and my Blogger friends. Every social media platform was inundated with best wishes from distant family and relatives and friends and colleagues. I was overwhelmed with all the love and felt truly blessed and special.
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you again on a public platform.
The week ended on another high when I was advised by Rebateszone that Mumbai to Melbourne was among its selected top 50 Fashion and Beauty Blogs in India. Click here to read the full post here
I had this question someone asked me and I thought I should answer this on the blog as well. So a few weeks back, someone asked me when I shoot my fashion posts as I work full time. I shoot my posts on the weekends and normally I shoot them when I am heading somewhere be it for coffee or lunch or evening out with husband or friends…..
I have shot some posts in the week on evenings normally indoors when I have products that I have showcased such as for the Seriously Twisted jewellery. So the posts I put up are truly a reflection of how I dress up and how I utilize my wardrobe in real life and you would normally see functional dressing in my posts.
I also do not believe in being someone I am not and that is the message I have portrayed through my blog. Mumbai to Melbourne (the fashion and beauty section of the blog) is such a pure and honest effort to show you how I dress up and how I use my wardrobe in my daily life amongst my other creative jigs. That is what Mumbai to Melbourne was born out of and still stands for – Innovative, Creative, Functional and Maximising Existing Resources.
Moving to the Outfit of the Day– Flared Ripped Denim with Retro shirt and Patchwork blazer.
The Outfit of the Day was shot a couple of weeks back. I was heading out with my husband for a lunch buffet at a local restaurant. The Outfit of the day comprises of a mix of pieces old and new. The Flared Ripped Denim has been in my wardrobe from 2006. Yes this was the first jeans I bought in Melbourne. It still fits perfectly and hey retro flared denim is so in fashion why would I be getting rid of this golden gem any time soon!! The older the denim gets the softer it feels due to wear and tear and washing. It also fades at the right places. Do you have such old Gems in your wardrobe??
I decided to team it with a beautiful Beige and Blue Printed Shirt which is one of my recent purchases from Dotti. Love the fit and the cut and the best part is the collar. The blue print just makes the shirt pop. A versatile shirt that can easily be worn to work with pants or skirt and as you can see can be worn casually with ripped denim like I have. Button Down shirts are a must have piece if you are trying to build your functional wardrobe. The fit, cut and material is very important when you buy one. So definitely try before you buy.
Since I was feeling the 70’s Retro Era that day I decided to add my favourite Blazer with Patchwork on its elbows as another layer. Gifted by Hubby dearest this is one Blazer that I see myself wearing for the next 10 years at least. Reminds me of the Shashi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Pran Days in the movies.
Great to invest in a few Androgynous pieces like these in your wardrobe that you can mix and match with feminine pieces for that look that gets you a “WOW” from everyone around.
I teamed it with my trusted black ankle boots and my colourful wallet that completed this look. Minimal accessories and maroon-red lip just gave it the needed pop !!
Heading out for a coffee or brunch with friends or your girl gang or just heading out for a house party this Outfit of the Day is perfect to lounge in. Great for the transitional weather if you are in the northern hemisphere moving into Fall-Winter or heading into Spring-Summer if you live in the Southern Hemisphere. So what are you waiting for channel you Inner Denim Diva !!
