Velvet Dreams

Velvet is a tricky material and a lot of people tend to go overboard when they wear Velvet. Velvet needs to be worn in bits and pieces and I have seldom seen an entire outfit in velvet that I have liked. I have seen some celebrities wear atrocious and garish Anarkali suits and gowns entirely in velvet and look absolutely over the top.

On the other hand I have seen some Celebrities do velvet just the right way. I own this Crop top in velvet that I previously styled on the blog with a Midi floral skirt and teamed it with velvet pumps. It was the simple styling that helped both the crop top and the skirt shine.

Melbourne is so infamous for its unpredictable weather that us Melbournians are always armed with our light throws and umbrellas wherever we go. Be it our bags or our cars we carry our Armour with us all the time.
This particular day I had to run a few errands and then head to dinner with my friends in the city so I dint have time to come home and change. Keeping the weather change that was to come I decided to wear my maxi dress with a full sleeved velvet crop top. It added that formal touch which was perfect for an evening out with my girls. It also protected me from the cool change and winds as Velvet is a warm fabric.

I shot these at home on the way out as the husband had this brilliant idea of muted lighting with the blinds pulled down. I loved the effect it gave the pictures. I styled the look with one of my favourite silver and pearl statement necklaces which gave it the much needed pop. I added simple suede wedge heeled pumps. Comfortable pair of shoes are necessary when you know you will be walking a lot with mates. A stone ring was all I needed to complete the look.

Simple look that can be taken from day to night and worn in transitional weather as well.

One can easily wear this look with long skinny calf length boots and add a thin jacket if you live in the northern hemisphere and currently transitioning into Winters. Absolutely an outfit for transitional weather. In Summers this is a great way to wear crop tops if you are not comfortable wearing them by themselves.

Velvet can be worn with simple styling and in parts. Pairing them with cottons or linens reduce the impact of the shine. If you are not comfortable with Velvet try it with accessories like a clutch or shoes and then move on to wearing velvet as a top/ skirt.
