A Maxi Dress is a must have essential that you should have in your wardrobe. It can be styled in multiple ways and is one item that can be worn in both summers and in winters with layers. I have a few Maxi dresses in my wardrobe that I have featured on the blog before. This nude and black striped striped dress with a slide slit has been in my wardrobe for over 8 years. It fits like a glove and is a soft stretchy fabric which is airy and breathable. I got this one in a season end clearance sale in the year 2011 and I have absolutely loved it.
I have always spoken on Mumbai 2 Melbourne about wearing and re-wearing your clothes again and shopping within your closet. I genuinely believe in doing that in my personal life as well as what I showcase on Mumbai 2 Melbourne. Here is 2 ways I have styled this Maxi Dress on Mumbai 2 Melbourne before.
Look 1- Maxi Dress with a Metallic Belt
A Nude and Black Striped Maxi dress is very basic and you can style it up or down. I was travelling on this day and wanted to have an easy fuss free look. I wanted to keep the look free from too many accessories yet wanted the look to make an impact.
I have kept the look monotone by styling the dress with a metallic high waist thin belt. This belt helped clinch the upper waist thus giving the look a bit of definition.
I added black wedge heels and black shimmery stud earrings. I teamed up retro style sunglasses to complete the look. This is simply a perfect look for Spring-Summer season.
Look 2 – Maxi dress with a Velvet Crop Top
During transitional weather like Autumn or Spring before Summer, Melbourne can have warmer days but cooler evenings. On one such evening I was heading for dinner to catch up with my girlfriends. I wanted to be warm without carrying a shrug because I was using public transport and did not want to carry a big bag either.
Hence I teamed up the Maxi dress with a full sleeved fitted velvet crop top. This added a totally different dimension to the look.
I added a metallic pearl and beaded necklace that made a huge statement along with a huge stone and gold ring. I tied my hair in a half up twist on one side and pinned it thus keeping the hair off my face. I was also in the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy here so the cropped top was great to hide the slight bulge that had started to show. I teamed the look with the same trusted black wedges. I kept this look monochrome as well like look 1.
If you do not own a maxi dress yet, definitely get one. Start with a basic one like a striped one or one that is plain as they are easier to style. You can find them at Forever 21 or online on Shein or Zara through the year.
